Relationships are a dynamic alchemy of personality, past, future, balance, money, power, love and sexuality. Having the willingness and courage to continue being vulnerable with our partner is essential. Intimacy grows when we remain curious about it all. Into-me-see.
Within our 31 years of partnership the ups and downs we have experienced have transformed us. My husband James and I have navigated through births, birth defects, illness, the deaths of our parents, the start up and demise phases of many companies, international moves, cultural differences, empty nesting and depression. We sustain our marriage by communicating, knowing our boundaries, and being both gentle and strong with one another. We work with what happens as it happens. We remember to be grateful that we found each other in the first place.
After being together for ten years we did an experiential workshop for couples presented by Rich and Char Tosi. Char founded Woman Within International and Rich is one of the founders of The Mankind Project. They have been married for over 40 years. Early on they realized that there was more to personal growth than men and women doing their work on separate weekends. The result was A Couples Weekend, where men and women explore their challenges and embrace their joys together, with the support of trained facilitators and other couples.
We have facilitated couples work for two decades. We see how our friends and weekend participants struggle to communicate. With encouragement and compassion, we witness how the heat and energy in relationship forges new bonds. We are touched by how couples create their own particular ways to nurture, protect and sustain their relationships over time.
As a life, relationship and family coach, I offer skills I’ve learned from A Couples Weekend as well as all the coaching and facilitation experience I’ve gained over the years. Over Valentine's Day in 2016, my husband flew up to Seattle to do work with Drs. John and Julie Gottman. We experienced The Art and Science of Love, with 350 other couples in a big hotel ballroom. Quite wild to be with that many people learning how to be in relationship in a loving and healthy way! There were 22 roving therapists to help us through as we did work within our partnership. Since then, I have completed the Level 1 Clinical Training of Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
It is up to each couple to navigate and walk their own unique path. I guide couples through conflict and communication to gain clarity and connect from the heart. I share ideas and tools to keep sensuality and sexuality alive over the long haul. I am constantly learning and gathering new resources. I support and encourage with humor and willingness. And I keep doing my own work. I truly appreciate knowing my partner deeply and being known. I directly experience how trust develops over time through giving and receiving.
I am honored to offer my experience, skills and humanity in service to other couples who are committed to walking the road of intimacy and partnership.
